Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
1. Who we are
Chili Mode is an independent project operated by Pauline ("we", "us", "I"), a sole developer based in France. For any privacy-related question, you can reach me at pau@chilimode.com.
This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit chilimode.com or use the Chili Mode Mac app, why it's collected, who it's shared with, and what rights you have. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applies to all users worldwide.
2. Information collected
The information collected falls into three categories:
When you visit the website:
- Your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and the pages you visit. This is recorded in standard server logs by our hosting provider (Netlify), which is necessary to serve the site and protect against abuse.
- No analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking tools are loaded on the website.
- No cookies are set by chilimode.com itself.
When you purchase Chili Mode:
- Your email address, billing country, and payment details. These are collected and processed by our payment partners (see "Who we share data with" below). The actual payment card information is never seen or stored by us — it goes directly to the payment processor.
- The transaction record (order ID, amount, date) is retained for accounting and tax purposes.
When you use the Chili Mode app:
- Your license key and a non-identifying machine identifier (a hash of hardware properties) are sent to Amore.computer's license server on first launch to verify the license is valid.
- The app does not collect or transmit any usage data, telemetry, or personal information beyond what's needed for license validation.
3. Why this information is collected
- To provide the service — deliver the app you purchased, validate your license, and process refunds when needed.
- To meet legal obligations — retain transaction records as required by French and EU tax law.
- To protect the service — server logs help detect abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
4. Legal basis under GDPR
Each kind of processing has a specific legal basis under Article 6 of the GDPR:
- Performance of a contract — purchases, license validation, and download delivery (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Legitimate interest — server logs for site operation and security (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Legal obligation — retention of accounting and tax records (Art. 6(1)(c)).
5. Who we share data with
We only share data with the third-party services strictly required to operate Chili Mode. These are our "subprocessors":
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processor and Merchant of Record. Stripe collects your payment information directly, processes the transaction, and remits tax to the relevant authorities. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
- Amore.computer — handles the checkout, license key delivery, and Mac app distribution. Amore's privacy policy: amore.computer.
- Netlify, Inc. — hosts the website (chilimode.com) and processes incoming HTTP requests. Netlify's privacy policy: netlify.com/privacy.
No data is sold, rented, or shared for marketing or advertising purposes — by us or by any of our subprocessors on our behalf.
6. International data transfers
Some of our subprocessors (Stripe and Netlify) are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is made under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent legally recognized safeguards, in accordance with Articles 44–49 of the GDPR.
7. How long data is kept
- Server logs: automatically rotated after 30 days by our hosting provider.
- Purchase and license records: retained for the legally required tax retention period (10 years in France) and for as long as we need to support your license.
- Email correspondence: retained for up to 3 years for support and reference, then deleted.
8. Your rights under GDPR
As a person whose data we process, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct any inaccurate information.
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") — ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Restriction of processing — ask us to limit how we process your data.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, where consent is the legal basis.
- Complaint — lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL — cnil.fr) or your local supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email pau@chilimode.com. Requests are responded to within 30 days, as required by law.
9. Cookies
The chilimode.com website does not set any cookies of its own. However, when you complete a purchase, the Stripe checkout flow may set strictly necessary cookies on its own domain to process the transaction and prevent fraud — these are governed by Stripe's own privacy and cookie policy.
10. Security
Payment information is processed entirely by Stripe and never reaches our systems. License keys and email addresses are stored on Amore.computer's infrastructure with standard industry security practices in place. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we use widely adopted, security-vetted providers for every sensitive operation.
11. Children
Chili Mode is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated occasionally to reflect changes in the service, new subprocessors, or legal updates. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will always reflect the latest revision. For material changes, we'll notify customers by email.
13. Contact
